The Conditionals: 2 parts in 1 sentence

Conditional sentences, as the name implies, contain a condition: A happens on condition that B happens. They fall into 2 parts: the main clause and the conditional clause. The latter may be introduced by ‘provided that’ or ‘on condition that’, but more often simply begins with ‘if’.

There are various types of conditional sentences:

TYPE 1: PRESENT + PRESENT / If you need any help, just give me a ring..

TYPE II: PRESENT + FUTURE /  If I ask you nicely, will you take me out?

TYPE III: PAST SIMPLE + (would + main verb) /  If I told you I love you, would you promise me to be true?

TYPE IV: PAST PERFECT + (would have + past participle) /  If I had made a promise, I would have kept my word.
